FAQ: What does the "NO STYLE FOR..." message mean?

If your file scan results in a "[NO STYLE for: ...]" message, it is because either:

  • You do not have the correct bibliography format selected (e.g., APA);
  • You do not have the correct reference type selected (e.g., Journal Article); or
  • The selected bibliography format does not include a format for the type of reference used (e.g., Chicago 15 AD does not include a format to be used with statutes or unenacted bills).

To correct this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have the correct bibliography format and reference type selected.
  2. To double-check the format for that type of reference, open the Bibliography Format Editor (Window > Bibliography Format Editor), scroll down and click on the name of the bibliography format, then find that reference type on the right.
  3. f you need to change the elements for that format type, please refer to the chapter on Creating and Modifying Bibliography Formats in the user manual.
